I have not used an ANR headset before but had a fellow pilot compare this $250 headset to his (few year old Bose costing $800-$900) and he said it worked as well. This AVshop design appears to be an ANR version of the PNR QFR Solo, OEMed from Lightspeed Aviation. I previously used the Lightspeed QFR Solo and was very pleased with it so I hope this new headset gives me as good service.

You get what you pay for. This is a good headset at a good price. I use these as an extra set for passengers etc. The phone plug works very well and these would be great for a 50 hour a year pilot. Passengers love the headsets far better than any non-ANR headsets. Overall these are a great value.

I have been very pleased with the "A450 ANR Headset". This is my first active noise reduction headset and they really work well. They are much more comfortable than a high priced name brand set that I had been using (which are now used for the rear seat passengers). Over a long trip my ears do not burn and they are still easy to wear. I have not tried the cell phone connection yet but so far I have been very pleased and will be getting another set soon.

The A450 was a significant step up from the passive headset that I used during training which is now relegated for use by passengers. It was quite comfortable on a 2 hour flight in 90+ degree temps that I took the day after it arrived. The extra dB's of reduction come in handy when flying in the SFO Class Bravo on a busy day. I found that I was able to have the volume level down a bit since I wasn't trying to listen over the noise of the aircraft. I let my friend, whose plane we were flying, try them out and he was also impressed. If I had known what a difference there was between the passive headset that I bought for my training (Sigtronics S-40) and the A450, I would have spent the extra $100 without hesitation...

For the price this is great. I also have a more expensive headset and this is the same quality and functions. I have and will continue to tell all my friends about this great headset. From my letting my friends use the headset 2 other pilots have bought the set from AvShop.

Performance was very good. They were comfortable except for one aspect that made them unusable for me: Even thought the clamping pressure seemed adequate, they continuously slipped down so I had to keep pushing the earpieces back up into the headband. Avshop was very good about taking them back and refunding the purchase price very quickly when I returned them in like-new condition with all original packing materials.

Headset is comfortable and ANR does make a big difference when turned on. Earphone and microphone are clear.

I already own an A400 - the previous version of the A450, and this fact alone says something for the set. It provides plenty of quieting action, and helps clarify ATC over a passive headset. The 450 added a MAJOR advantage over the 400 - the auto shutoff. This allows you to relax and not look twenty times if you shut the ANR switch so you will have batteries the next time you fly.
Noise reduction is good - as a matter of fact, I can hardly tell the difference between the A400/450 and my friend's Lightspeed sets. There is a significant difference between this one the Bose, but also a 4X multiplier in price. In my short and limited test of the Telex ANR set - the difference in comfort is so great that the noise difference is impossible to ascertain - the telex simply floats three grades above the rest (also in price over most...)

After one flight I wish I didn't wait so long to replace my Telex Echelon 100. The passive noise reduction of this headset is superior to my old headset, and the ANR reduces the low frequency noise to the point where my ears do not get sore after a two or three hour cross country. This headset is an excellent value, and the audio input provides entertainment for the kids with a portable CD or DVD player. My only complaint is that the earcups tend to slide down instead of staying put. But there is enough clamping force to keep the earcups in place when the top slides up.

If you are reading this, you are like me ... you want advice, so you read the opinions of others. I bought three A450s for my passenger seats. My "pilot's" headset is the LightSpeed 30G which is a nice, comfortable headset with great ANR (it HAS to have great ANR because its passive noise reduction is minimal) ... at 3X the price of the A450.
In a nutshell, the A450 is an excellent value.
#1. Passive noise reduction is superb, absolutely superb, and the ANR adds significantly, but honestly the passive reduction alone is worth the price.
#2. One of my 3 headsets was pretty snug, but the other two slipped every time I put them on. The A450 is otherwise solidly designed and feels substantial. I took the liberty of putting a slight bend in the metal shafts that connect the earpieces to the headband, and that took care of it ... on all 3 headsets. Microphone location and adjustability are very good

I have had my headset for almost two years. While it is not as comfortable as the Denali headset my wife has, I could buy three of these for what she paid for the Denali. I have had excellent results with this unit. Comfort, sound quality and input jack for audio/cellphone make this headset unbeatable. It is actually made by the Lightspeed Company, who provides the warranty service. I have sent it in for repair (normal wear & tear) and was never charged. The turn around time was less than a week. When this one wears out, I am buying another.
