Saw this in Oshkosh, and bought a pair for my co-pilot wife. Standard headsets gave her headaches, and even the Flightcom Denali was uncomfortable for her. She LOVES this new product. Very comfortable to wear, and good sound quality. I may even have to get me a set!

I fly acro a lot and was looking for something very lightweight without a battery box that would swing around and hit me in the head. In addition for noisier aircraft ( like a Pitts ) I have to wear earplugs besides an ANR headset, so the plugs in the Clarity Aloft set are not a problem. This headset works very well, attenuates sound as advertised, has no mass to pull on my head and stays well attached under my sunglasses. For someone who flies a quiet cabin aircraft most of the time this headset could be a specialty item used only for acro, when sitting behind a loud radial engine, or the like. In a case like that $550 might seem a bit high depending on the amount of use. But there's no doubt that this is a whole new direction in aviation headsets and sooner or later most serious sport pilots will have one.

The Clarity Aloft headset represents a great leap forward in headset technology. I bought mine in January 2005 and have worn it for over sixty hours of single- and multi-engine (piston) flight during the month of February. --I haven't tried it in a helicopter yet, but I hope to do so soon. The bottom line is that I love the headset. COMFORT: Gone are the headset-induced "clamp" headaches. With the headset frame now gone, I no longer bump into the plane's headliner or visors. The foam ear plugs are similar to readily-available low-cost hearing protection plugs, and are very comfortable when inserted properly into the ear canals. The headset is so light I hardly know it's there. CONVENIENCE: The Clarity Aloft headset stores neatly in a fraction of the flight bag space required by other headsets. Another feature is that I can now wear whichever pair of sunglasses I like without having to worry about the glasses' ear pieces causing gaps in the headset's ear seals.

I bought a set at OSH '04, and have been using them continuously since. I would never think about returning to "earmuff" type headsets again. I fly singles and motor gliders, and enjoy the attenuation of outside noise that the earplugs provide, without the hassle or weight of ANR headsets that are on the market. The clarity and fidelity for both radio and intercom communications are excellent. I compared these side by side with a set of Bose X ANR headsets, and found Clarity Aloft to be just as quiet, much, much lighter, more confortable, and roughly half the price of the Bose. The replaceable ear plugs last me about 5-7 flights, then I wash a set gently with a drop of liquid dish soap, and let them air-dry. I find that one pair of earplugs can be reused almost indefinately if properly cared for and washed as stated above. Clarity Aloft is the first of a new generation of headsets. I predict the the "earmuff" style of headsets will go by the same path as hand-held microphones for aircraft communications! Clarity Aloft's after sales service is also second to none. Shortly after purchasing a hand-held tranceiver, I found that the headset converter for my radio did not function correctly with my headset. One short call to Clarity Aloft resolved the problem. If you try a pair, you'll be hooked!

I purchased a Clarity Aloft headset at Oshkosh 2004, for personal use in my Diamond-Katana motor glider, and in rental C-172's and a PA-28. The light weight, combined with no clamping earcups feel as though I'm not even wearing a headset! Noise cancelling is extremely effective. After over 12 months of weekly use, I still have 8 of the original ear pieces that came with the headset. After 2 or 3 flights I soak the earpieces in a water/dishwashing soap solution, rinse with fresh water, and set them out to dry over night. Each set then lasts a dozen or more flights, with no loss of ability to attenuate outside noise. This headset is unsurpassed in comfort, and provides a quiet environment equal to the best ANR headsets. Try them once, and you'll never go back to the clamp-on style of headset again!
