Great product with the custom earmolds

I got the LightSpeed Mach 1 a few months ago and was initially disappointed with the product due to difficulties with fit using the included ear foams. Basically I had to use the yellow earplugs to get even a decent seal and they came unsealed everytime I laugh or smile in flight. I've recently gotten the custom earmolds through LightSpeed and they have vastly improved my perception of this product to highly recommended.

Good but not great yet!

I bought the LightSpeed MACH 1 Headset with great excitement. I was doubtful if a light-weight headset will provide sufficient noise reduction in a single and twin piston aircraft. However, this was a great surprise. I tested the headset on a Cessna 172, Piper Arrow, and a Piper Seminole; it works great. ------------------Positive: It is so light than you really do not feel you still wearing a headset. The earplugs were a little tricky to install, but then worked great. All transmissions come trough very clear without any interfering background noise. Yet, you can hear the engines as well as the environment around you (not like the conventional headset). The earplugs provide a seal against disturbing noise while you can still here the frequency and tone of an engine (great to head any engine deficiencies during flight). The Mach 1 comes in a very nice small plastic box, very stylish and convenient. ------------------Negative: For some people it might take some time to get used to having something in your ear but there is one big problem with the Mach 1. The microphone arm is very short and barely reaches in front of the mouth. This makes it hard to adjust the mic at the right position. My friends and me had trouble with the microphone sensitivity and every once a while, we had to manually hold the mic closer while flying to transmit clearly. All in all a great start for a lightweight headset. Personally, I exchanged the Mach 1 and got the Clarity Aloft, which is designed perfect!

Excellent

I decided to try an in-ear headset because of the discomfort that the typical style headset was causing for me. The pressure from the ear cups on a traditional headset caused me headaches and aggravated a TMJ problem. So after thorough research, I decided on the Mach 1 and have been very pleased with it's overall performance. I fly a Cessna 172, so the noise of a piston engine plane can be extreme, but even with the included standard blue foam ear pieces, the noise attenuation is superior to the David Clarks that I had been using. I have ordered the custom molds and am anxious to see if it gets even better. The sound quality is excellent, and my passengers and ATC say that I come through loud and clear through the mic. Also, I have found no problems with the headset shifting or the earpieces loosening during flight.
